Robert Gargano, 83, of East Haven died peacefully on January 27, 2023 at Whispering Pines with his family by his side. He was the husband of Fortunata “Fay” Gambardell­a Gargano.

Bob was born in New Haven on May 25, 1939 a son of the late Giuseppe and Mary Saffiotti Gargano. He served proudly in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1963.

As a young man at the age of 22, Bob began repairing lawnmowers in the basement of his brothers house. He opened Gargano’s Power Equipment on Hemingway Avenue in East Haven which he operated successful­ly for 54 years. He was a proud, longstandi­ng businessma­n in the East Haven community. Bob enjoyed snowmobili­ng, but his greatest joy was as a provider for his family.

Bob was the father of Donna Marie Carotenuto (Anthony), Maryjane Durazzo (Carl), Robert Gargano, Jr. (Catherina) and the late Elizabeth Ann Gargano; brother of Anne D’Acunto, Henry “Butch” Gargano and the late Mary Sabellico, Grace Perricone, Lorraine Venditto, Ralph, Gennaro “Jerry”, Rocco, twins Edward and Fred, Raymond and Joseph Gargano. He was the proud grandfathe­r of Jaimie Carotenuto, Carlo Durazzo Jr. (Cori), Nathan Durazzo ( Jackie), Daniel

Durazzo (Erin), Nicolina, Alexander and Emilee Grace Gargano and great-grandfathe­r of Carlo “Trey” Durazzo III.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday February 1, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place, New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Pio of Pietrelcin­a Parish at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 80 Taylor Avenue, East Haven. Entombment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to Arthur C.
