Robert Otto Burkhardt, 99, of Branford passed away peacefully at home on February 12th 2023. Robert was born in New Britain CT in 1923 and was the son of Katherine Neubauer Burkhardt and Adolph Burkhardt. He was predecease­d by his wife of 51 years, Eleanor Jane Burkhardt, his brother Richard F. Burkhardt and his foster brother John Wasserman. He was a Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Acontius in the South Pacific during World War II. For most of his life, Robert owned and rented beach cottages in Indian Neck with his partners, John and Eleanor Wasserman. In his younger years, Robert was an avid golfer, bowler and boater. He enjoyed annual trips to Florida with Jane over many years. He is survived by his stepsons William Marsland (Lawrence Desbiens) and Michael Marsland , his granddaugh­ter Sarah Marsland, Sarah’s mother Katherine Marsland all of Branford, by his nephews Christian Burkhardt of Branford, and Richard Burkhardt of Kingwood TX, and by his niece Priscilla (Patrick) Carr of Parkland FL and their children and grandchild­ren. Also by his cousin Paul Burkhardt (Meredith) of Key West, FL. Robert will be remembered for his dry wit, lifelong curiosity, and devotion to his family. The family wishes to thank his caregiver JoCobra Hall for her loving dedication to Robert in his final year.
