Virginia “Ginny” LaMarsh, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 23rd, at her home in Lisbon. Ginny was born on September 20th, 1933, in Hartford, CT to the late Rodney and Winifred McKeen. She was the widow of the late George P. LaMarsh.

Ginny grew up in Newington, CT, and spent her summers at Chapman Beach in Westbrook. She graduated from Newington High School in 1951 and married the late Libby Guala in 1953. Ginny and Libby moved to Chapman Beach to raise their young family in 1969.

Ginny received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Southern New Hampshire University and enjoyed working with the elderly as an outreach worker for the Norwich Senior Center until she retired in 1988.

Ginny had an adventurou­s spirit and spent her childhood climbing trees, hanging out with her Newington gang, and spending summers with friends at Chapman Beach. As an adult, Ginny was fond of dancing, theater, travel, and spending time with family and friends. Ginny also enjoyed shopping for Christmas presents year-round. Her greatest passion was creative writing and she wrote many poems throughout her life. She shared this passion with her late husband, George. Ginny was also known for her sense of humor, which was enjoyed by all who knew her.

Ginny is survived by her daughter Betsy Guala (Robert Hardcastle) of Portland, CT; daughter Kerry Niering (William) of Lisbon CT; her late husband’s stepson, Larry Sniederman of Guilford; granddaugh­ter Shannon ( Jessie) Hall of Benton, Maine; Grandson Jordan Hardcastle of NYC; and her great-grandchild­ren Isaiah and Samantha Ledbetter of Newport, Maine. Ginny is also survived by her beloved cat, Fred.

Ginny was predecease­d by her son, Christophe­r Guala and her brother, Walter McKeen.

Services will be held privately at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown, CT on September 16th, 2023 with a final tribute at Chapman Beach at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please plant a climbable tree in Ginny’s honor.
