Larry Paul Bausher
July 8, 1939 - September 21, 2023
Larry Bausher, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on September 21, after a brief illness. Larry was born in Reading, PA to John and Esther (Schappell) Bausher, and grew up in Shoemakersville, PA, where he developed his passion for sports and his interest in organic chemistry. After graduating from Perry High School, he attended Franklin and Marshall College, followed by graduate school at UCLA, where he earned a PhD. in Organic Chemistry. He moved to the New Haven area when he began working at Yale Medical School, Department of Ophthalmology as a Research Associate in the early 1970s. He worked there for many years and later worked as a chemist at AccuStandard in New Haven. In retirement, Larry was able to devote more time to his interests and hobbies, mostly birding, duplicate bridge, where he attained the rank of Platinum Life Master with over 13,000 master points, travel, and his family. Larry was also an enthusiastic fan of UConn women’s basketball, the St. Louis Cardinals, and UCLA football.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Phyllis (Bruskin), his devoted son Benjamin and his wife Annie (Tranquilli), and his greatest joys, granddaughters Lilah and Hallie. Larry was a quiet man, but always a strong and calming presence in our lives.
Graveside funeral services for Larry will take place at Mishkan Israel Cemetery, Jewell Street, New Haven at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, https://www.hospice.com/ donate/ , or the New Haven Bird Club, https://www. newhavenbirdclub.org/ , or to a charity of one’s choice. The Weller Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven, is in charge of arrangements.
