NFL CASE FOR MARK
ANATOMY LESSON
Tim Tebow may not be the complete package for a quarterback, but there’s no denying he’s an impressive one. Here’s a breakdown of the newest Jet, body part by body part:
HEAD
He is actually dyslexic, which may explain why he isn’t a great practice player or why he can struggle with execution where reps are required. On the other hand, he’s at his best in the midst of chaos, where his outstanding football instincts take over. He’s smart. He’ll take risks but not unnecessary ones, which keeps his interception ratio rather low. He sometimes sees things but doesn’t pull the trigger.
HEART
People can quibble about his QB skills. Everyone agrees he’s a great football player and it starts inside. He is among the most competitive athletes in any sport, driven by the same kind of convictions that guide his personal life. He’s fearless, he’ll play with pain and he’s a natural leader who inspires teammates, even his own defense. Check out the game film of him playing on a broken leg as a high school sophomore.
FEET
His footwork isn’t very good but it’s also the area with the most room for improvement. He almost looks clumsy taking his drops, which is why he’s better out of the shotgun where his balance is already established. He doesn’t step into his throws and he tends to open up with his stride like a pitcher who can’t find the plate. Better footwork would help his accuracy.
EYES
He doesn’t have great vision of the field and he even has certain blind spots, like the flats. He’s a home-run hitter who is so focused on making the big play he’ll ignore the
easy checkdowns, which shows in his completion percentage. He’s the kind of quarterback where you design an offense to only give him half the field to read. And his
vision as a runner is superb.
ARM
Stand him straight up and his arm strength is outstanding. But because of a long throwing motion that resembles that of a baseball outfielder, his accuracy is poor and he’ll he throw the th ugliest of o passes. Maybe M one in four is a tight spiral. Tebow is better throwing on the run but b not efficient fici at all off balance. But he can also make some so great throws, throws like the game-winner that beat the Steelers in the
playoffs.
LEGS
He may be the
best running quarterback in the NFL and he could probably be converted into a running back. Thickly built, he runs with a fullback’s mentality.
He’ll run over defenders, even
the guys with 50s on their jerseys, and he has a mean stiff-arm. Although he takes too many hits, he has good escapability and is getting better at sensing backside
pressure. He’s almost unstoppable on two-point
conversions.
