Sidney Crosby scored a goal for the second straight game and added an assist to help the host Penguins beat the Devils, 5-2, Sunday night, Pittsburgh moving back within one point of the Rangers for first place in the East. Crosby, in his sixth game back from a second bout with concussion symptoms, made it 4-2 early in the third period. The Devils, sixth in the East, are 1-3-1 in their last five. n Frans Nielsen scored the only goal in the shootout and the Islanders beat the host Panthers, 3-2.

UCONN IN ELITE EIGHT

Long Island’s Bria Hartley scored 20 points and Kelly Faris added 15 to help top-seeded U conn beat No. 4 Penn State, 77-59, in the Kingston (R.I.) Regional semifinals on Sunday. The Huskies will face No. 2 Kentucky, a 79-62 winner over No. 11 Gonzaga, Tuesday night with a berth in the Final Four on the line.

n Natalie Novosel scored 16 points and top-seeded Notre Dame advanced to the Raleigh (N.C.) Regional final by routing No. 5 St. Bonaventur­e, 79-35. Notre Dame will play second-seeded Maryland, an 81-74 winner over No. 3 Texas A&M, on Tuesday night.

HAWKS WIN IN 4 OTS

Joe Johnson scored 37 points and the host Hawks ended the Jazz’s six-game win streak, 139-133, in the NBA’S first quadruple-overtime game since 1997. The four OTS tied for the third-longest game in NBA history. It was the ninth NBA game to go that far.

STEWART WINS

Tony Stewart got his second NASCAR victory of 2012 when rain shortened the race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., by 71 laps. The defending Sprint Cup champ has won seven of the last 15 races.

VENUS SHOWS METTLE

The come backing Venus Williams erased a match point at 5-4 in the final set and outlasted Aleksandra Wozniak, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in the third round at the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla.

TSENG IS TOPS

Top-ranked Yani Tseng (70) won the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, Calif., by six shots for her second straight LPGA Tour title and third in five events this year.
