Dodgers win with no Scully

Andre Ethier’s homer with two outs in the eighth sent the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in their home opener Tuesday.

Hall of Fame broadcaste­r Vin Scully, 84, missed the Dodgers’ home opener for the first time in 35 years because of a cold.

n Fox is objecting to the proposed sale of the Dodgers, saying the incoming ownership group that includes Magic Johnson has not disclosed whether Time Warner Cable is involved in the purchase.

n Chipper Jones came off the disabled list and began his final season with a single and a two-run homer to help visiting Atlanta top Houston, 6-4, for its first victory.

The nearly 40-year-old Jones singled in his first atbat and hit a homer lefthanded — the 455th blast of his career — in the third inning to put the Braves up 3-1.

Carlos Beltran and David Freese homered to lead St.

Louis to a 3-1 victory in Cincinnati.

Before the game, the Reds gave All-star second baseman Brandon Phillips a sixyear, $72.5 million contract.

Kyle Drabek won for the first time since June, Edwin Encarnacio­n homered and host Toronto beat Boston, 7-3. Miguel Cabrera doubled and scored on Prince Fielder’s single, part of a snowy eighth-inning rally that gave host Detroit a 5-2 win over Tampa Bay as the Tigers improved to 4-0.

OILERS WIN AGAIN

The Edmonton Oilers have won the NHL’S draft lottery, and own the No. 1 selection for the third straight year. Edmonton had an 18.8% chance of winning the top pick. The Islanders will select fourth on June 22 in Pittsburgh.
