Tied to wrong shooting, he sez

- Benjamin Lesser and Barbara Ross

HE SHOT someone — just not this guy.

That’s what defense lawyer Anthony Ricco said Tuesday at the opening of the murder trial of rapper Trevell Coleman, who is accused of gunning down John Henkel in October 1993 during a botched East Harlem robbery.

Ricco said a guilt-ridden Coleman, 37, went to a police precinct stationhouse two years ago and confessed to shooting someone in East Harlem around that time, but it couldn’t be Henkel.

The lawyer said the ac- count Coleman gave investigators doesn’t line up with Henkel’s death.

“He’s not sure what person he shot. (Prosecutors) say it fits perfect. Keep an open mind,” Ricco told a Manhattan jury.

Coleman, widely known as rapper G. Dep, told investigators he shot someone in February or March of 1993, and didn’t know if the victim died, Ricco said. Coleman also described his victim as a blond, clean-shaven man in a plaid coat.

Henkel, 32, was killed Oct. 19, 1993, had brown hair and a beard and wore a beige leather coat.

But Manhattan Assistant District Attorney David Drucker told jurors they have the right shooter and victim.

He said detectives matched details of Coleman’s confession to murder records for the 23rd Precinct from 1989 to 2000.

“No other homicide comes even close to the details that the defendant gave,” he said.

A married father of three, Coleman was once signed to hip-hop mogul Sean (Diddy) Combs’ record label.
