Terror susp to stand trial
A QUEENS MAN of Algerian descent who is accused of plotting to blow up a major Manhattan synagogue will stand trial on terror charges, a judge ruled Monday.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus rejected an argument by suspect Ahmed Ferhani’s lawyers that there was insufficient evidence to try their client, who ducked more serious conspiracy charges when a grand jury refused to indict him on them.
Ferhani, 27, and Mohamed Mamdough, 21, were charged last year with conspiring to blow up one synagogue and stage a shootout in others to avenge treatment of Muslims around the world. Ferhani’s lawyers argue he was too mentally ill to know what he was doing.
