Horndog High teacher loses battle for job

- BY RACHEL MONAHAN NEWYORK DAILY NEWS

A MANHATTAN judge has dismissed a “Horndog High” teacher’s bid to win her job back, the Daily News has learned.

Cindy Mauro, a French instructor at Brooklyn’s James Madison High School, was caught in 2009 half naked in a classroom lounging between the legs of a topless fellow teacher, an arbitrator found.

Mauro has denied allegations of a lesbian lovefest, saying she was only helping her fellow teacher, Alini Brito, deal with her diabetes by snagging some candy.

The teachers also denied they were ever naked, alleging the janitor who discovered them during a school talent show had a vivid imagination. The high-profile tryst earned the Midwood high school notoriety and a catchy nickname.

In legal papers, city lawyers seeking to fire the teachers argued that their alibi was hard to believe because no medical equipment was found in Room 337, where the pair was caught in the act. The city also also pointed out that Brito and Mauro had climbed six flights of stairs before arriving at their rendezvous, passing multiple classrooms and more than one bathroom — unlikely behavior for a woman with low blood sugar.

Judge Robert Torres apparently agreed, upholding an arbitrator’s decision Wednesday to fire Mauro as “rational and with plausible basis.”

Earlier this month, Brito won her separate case before Judge Alice Schlesinger, who ordered that Brito reinstated to her city job. The city plans to appeal that decision Friday.
