Jacobs injures his knee; Peyton survives big hit

-

HOUSTON— San Francisco running back Brandon Jacobs injured his left knee in the first quarter of Saturday night’s 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans.

Jacobs, the ex-Giant who made waves earlier this week by ripping the Jets, was injured when he was hit by Kareem Jackson at the end of his first carry, an 8-yard run late in the first quarter. Jacobs remained on the turf for several minutes while trainers talked with him. He was helped to his feet and hopped off the field on his right leg before being placed on a cart and taken to the locker room.

San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said Jacobs would “miss a little time,” but that his injury wasn’t serious.

SEAHAWKS 30, BRONCOS 10: Peyton Manning led two scoring drives but threw two more interceptions in his home debut for Denver. The Broncos turned the ball over on half of their six first-half possessions with Manning under center, including an interception in the red zone for the second straight week.

The biggest positive for the four-time MVP who’s returning from a neck injury that sidelined him all of 2011 is that he took his first big hit in 19 months and bounced right up. Manning shook off defensive end Bruce Irvin’s hard hit and completed a 22-yard pass on the next play.

CHARGERS 28, COWBOYS 20: Sha- reece Wright’s electrifying 73-yard interception return set up Jackie Battle’s go-ahead, 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter for host San Diego. The Chargers overcame three turnovers, including two interceptions by Philip Rivers, to rally from a 10-0 deficit. The Bolts have five turnovers in two exhibitions.

RAMS 31, CHIEFS 17: Sam Bradford threw touchdown passes on his first two drives for host St. Louis.

Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel ripped his team’s effort. “Well, it was not very good tonight. And that’s being a little generous to say that,” Crennel said. “When you’re breaking camp and doing all those kinds of things, it just shows we’re not mature enough yet. No one really played good.”

BEARS 33, REDSKINS 31: In their first appearance together for host Chicago, Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall picked up where they left off when they starred together with the Broncos. They connected on a 41-yard pass on Chicago’s first play from scrimmage to set up the first of two first-quarter TD runs by Michael Bush.

Robert Griffin III played the first half for Washington, completing five of eight passes for 49 yards. But he also got sacked three times and lost a fumble on one of them, leading to Bush’s second touchdown, before Kirk Cousins took over. — AP
