Foot injury spoils Hosley’s Pick-6

- — Samuel

He felt the joy and elation of his first career touchdown, a 77yard interception return that highlighted the Giants’ 26-3 preseason win over the Jets.

And then, a bit later, Jayron Hosley felt something in his right foot, putting an end to the rookie cornerback's impressive coming-out party at MetLife Stadium. “It felt a little something,” Hosley said. "Something didn't feel right. So I just took the right precautions and talked to the right people. So we'll see.”

Hosley ended the night in a walking boot, with an injury that could set back the prodigious progress he's made in camp. Hosley doesn't know the severity of the injury, he said. “Just gotta go get more tests,” he said.

Last week, the third-round pick from Virginia Tech was struggling to return punts in Jacksonville. But he recovered quickly, using a solid week of practice to move up the depth chart. Hosley was the Giants' first-team nickelback on Saturday, and he scored the first TD of the preseason grudge match. The Giants led, 6-0, but, with 2:03 left in the first half, the anemic Jets had marched to the Big Blue 24. Jets QB Mark Sanchez dropped back and delivered a short pass intended for Patrick Turner. Hosley cut in front, snared the ball and raced the other way, high-stepping the last few yards.

“I didn't feel anything at that point,” he said. “Just green grass and the fans screaming. You know I was going for the touchdown.”
