Lebron eyes Rio; Roger tops Novak

-

LeBron James wants to step inside the Olympic rings a fourth time. Fresh off winning a gold medal in London with the U.S. men’s team, the NBA’s reigning MVP said Sunday that if he’s healthy — and if the rules allow — he would like to play again at the Rio Games in Brazil in 2016. James said he’s “done the math, and I’ll be 31,” but he’d love the opportunity to represent his country again. James is one of just three players to be on three U.S. Olympic teams. James was honored during the eighth inning of the minor league Akron Aeros’ game for giving back to his hometown in Ohio.

Even in the second set, Federer didn’t face a break point.

In the Cincy women’s final, No. 9 Li Na won her first title of 2012, beating No. 5 Angelique Kerber, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Li won a 24-point game in the second set to break serve.

PIRATES WIN IN 19

Pedro Alvarez homered in the 19th inning and the visiting Pirates won the longest game in the majors this season, outlast- ing the Cardinals, 6-3. It took 6 hours, 7 minutes. Both teams scored a run in the 17th, and each club used eight pitchers. Alvarez hit his 23rd homer, a solo shot off Barret Browning (1-3). Andrew McCutchen added a two-run single. Wandy Rodriguez (8-12) pitched two scoreless innings. It was the longest game by innings this year, and in terms of time tied Baltimore vs. Boston on May 6. Matt Moore shrugged off home runs by Mike Trout and Albert Pujols to win his fourth straight decision, and the visiting Rays completed a four-game sweep of the Angels, losers of 13 of 18, 8-3. The Rays outscored the Angels 37-14 — setting a team record for runs in a four-game series right after Seattle’s Felix Hernandez pitched a perfect game against them.
