Oh, deer: A diet of roadkill

- BY GINA SALAMONE

It takes more than Go-Go Juice to fuel Honey Boo Boo and her family.

“My family just loves to eat,” 7-year-old Alana Thompson says.

If you’re planning a finale party, here are some Boo-Boo-themed bites:

Cheese balls

It’s what’s for breakfast. Alana munches on cheese balls in the morning, which June calls “breakfast of champions.” The salty snack can be enjoyed any time of day, though. When the family returns from the Redneck Games, they discuss going on a diet sitting around eating cheese balls.

Roadkill

“Our local law enforcement called and says, ‘Hey, somebody hit a deer,’ ’cuz they know that we’ll use it, instead of letting it lay on the side of the road,” June boasts. “Why throw away free meat? That’s the way I look at it.”

Plus, it helps them save money for pageants. They cut up the meat and shoot it through a grinder. The family names the dead deer Darlene. Alana, cuddling and stroking a piece of flesh, tells it: “You look so good, Darlene.”

Sketti

The family’s favorite meal is “sketti,” or spaghetti, with homemade sauce.

“It’s an old family recipe,” June says. “You put a little bit of ketchup with the butter, melt it in the microwave, it’s pretty good.”

You’ll know the sketti’s done “when you throw it up on the wall and it sticks,” Alana advises.

Barbecue

During a dinner at Paradise BarB-Que Country, Alana spots porcelain pigs all over the eatery.

“We’re pigs,” her dad, Sugar Bear, says. But that doesn’t stop Alana from ordering three meat courses, plus two sides.

“We’re fat,” she announces.
