Hanks drops F-bomb on ‘GMA’ viewers

- Don Kaplan

HOLLYWOOD HEAVYweight Tom Hanks shocked millions of viewers — and himself — Friday, after he accidently dropped the Fbomb during a live appearance on “Good Morning America.” The typically squeaky-clean actor said the Fword during an interview on the ABC morning show, when anchor Elizabeth Vargas asked him to speak in his character’s British accent from the movie “Cloud Atlas.” “Mostly, it’s swear words,” he warned. Vargas told him to go ahead anyway, and when he began to speak in the accent, he let fly with the obscenity.

Vargas and Hanks immediately covered their mouths in shock, but the newswoman was the first to recover and quickly apologized, “We are so sorry, ‘Good Morning America.’”

“Man, oh man, I’m sorry,” Hanks added. “I slipped into a brand of acting. I have never done that before. I want to apologize to the kids in America that are watching this right now, and let me say next time on the show there will be a seven-second delay.”

Hanks apologized again later Friday on Twitter: “For GMA, spesh kowtow for Lizzie V for WHAT DID I JUST SAY??? Oops! In character! Sorry! Hanx”

ABC later released a statement on the matter:

“This morning, Tom Hanks accidentally used an expletive during a live interview on ‘GMA’ with Elizabeth Vargas. They both immediately apologized on air, and the show was corrected for the all subsequent feeds.”
