Hill picks his spot at good time

- BY KEVIN ARMSTRONGY

SAFETY Will Hill’s influence on his teammates ranged from the vocal to the visual on Sunday evening during the victory over Detroit. Hill came up big when he intercepted a pass from Matthew Stafford that was tipped. Hill returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 20 in the fourth quarter.

“That’s huge,” cornerback Prince Amukamara said. “Anytime us as a defense can turn over the ball and get it back to the offense, especially with great football position, that’s huge for our team and it’s even more of a plus when we put it in the end zone and we did it yesterday. Will has always come up big for us in games and that’s just another example of it.”

Hill also calmed teammates in between plays on the field when the Giants failed to stop the Lions’ running attack.

“In the huddle during the game,” Amukamara said. “when it seemed like Detroit was doing whatever they wanted to do with the run game and moving the chains, Will told us to all huddle up and called us all up and said, ‘This isn’t us. Let us turn this around.’ And then a couple of plays later he made a big play, and I think that speaks volumes.”

Hill had been arrested on Friday on a warrant related to child support. He started the game despite the arrest, and called the situation a “private matter” after the win.

TOUGH BREAK

Right guard Brandon Mosley broke his hand in the first quarter against the Lions, and wore a cast on his hand when he returned to the sideline.

“(The team’s medical staff) said if you needed him in an emergency, to play him,” Tom Coughlin said. “It wasn’t recommended.”

Dallas Reynolds did “an outstanding job” filling in for Mosley, according to Coughlin.

BACKUP PLAN

TE Adrien Robinson (knee) was injured on the opening kickoff. Coughlin did not have an update on his status for Sunday’s season finale.
