Matthew has fan ‘Club’
THE GOLDEN GLOBES are this weekend, and we’ve been desperately trying to catch up on all the movies that are in the running
for trophies. KLG: Matthew McConaughey’s (right) performance in “Dallas Buyers Club” (the film about an AIDS patient who smuggles unapproved medicine into the U.S.) is just so superb, it’s hard to believe anybody could beat him for anything. The people who vote for Hollywood awards always reward someone who undertakes a huge physical change, like McConaughey did. From the first frame of that film, you see Matthew — and we all know him as this studly Texan guy — it’s so frightening, the physical transformation, and then of course he’s great in the film.
HK: You know what’s funny? Although “The Wolf of Wall Street” is getting all kinds of mixed reviews and people are walking out, and they drop the F-bomb 500-plus times, there’s something about
Leonardo DiCaprio. You detest him because he’s all about excess and more, more, more, and you so dislike him in that film that you realize it’s really a phenomenal performance.
KLG: I was watching “Dallas Buyers Club” with my pastor, and at one point I had to remove myself from the room ’cause I started thinking, it’s a little weird sitting here watching this with my pastor. It was like going to those kinds of movies with your kids. I liked “Gravity,” but I didn’t love it. I saw “Frozen,” and I thought it was pretty good. I saw “Captain Phillips” and thought it was compelling and good, but I didn’t think it was Tom
Hanks’ best performance. HK: I liked “American Hustle,” but how could the Globes not nominate “The Butler”? That still drives me crazy! It’s not fair.
