GRIDLOCK SAM
A warm weekend ahead! Highs in the 50s means the stir-crazy will be out and about. While driving conditions will be safer than during the polar vortex, expect more traffic on Sunday in particular.
Bridge closures abound Friday night. All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brook
lyn Bridge will close midnight Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday and midnight Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.
On the George Washington Bridge, all lanes on the New York-bound lower level will close midnight Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.
The RFK Bridge Harlem River lift span will close intermittently for periods of up to 20 minutes between midnight Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday.
In Downtown Brooklyn, the Nets take on the defending champs, the Heat, 8 p.m. Friday. LIU and St. Francis face off in a women's basketball game noon Saturday. Jay-Z performs 8 p.m. Sunday. Drivers will be out in droves to see LeBron and Jay-Z, so watch out on Friday and Sunday, especially for extra traffic on
Flatbush and Atlantic Aves. Follow me on Twitter @gridlocksam for more traffic and transit news. From the mailbag: Dear Gridlock Sam,
This has happened to me twice. I park at a meter, insert money, get a receipt and display the receipt in my car. Unfortunately, I turned the right side down, whether out of carelessness, or I was in a hurry, or a draft turned it over. I receive a
ticket. I send a letter to Finance with documentation showing that the time had not expired. My appeal is rejected.
Is it too much to ask that the Muni Meter receipt be printed on both sides?
Jack, New York
Dear Jack,
Sounds like a good idea to me, but I checked with the city and they said it is too costly. The meters aren’t currently equipped to print on both sides.
