Gloves physicals ending Saturday

SATURDAY MARKS the final day of physicals for the 2014 Daily News Golden Gloves tournament.

Physicals will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Daily News offices at 4 New York Plaza in Manhattan. All boxers should monitor their emails and arrive on time. A Golden Gloves doctor, not a personal physician, must examine each competitor. Saturday will be the last and final day for weigh-ins. There will be no exceptions.

More than 400 competitors have already been examined for this year’s tournament. Opening night for the Golden Gloves will be Jan. 28 at B.B. King Blues Club in Manhattan.

There will be also be a mandatory USA Boxing coaches certification clinic on Jan. 18 for any coaches who wish to accompany their boxers to the ring. The clinic will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pacplex, located at 1500 Paerdegat Ave. N in Brooklyn. All coaches working a corner must be registered and certified for 2014.
