Schneider keys Devs’ win
Cory Schneider earned his third shutout of the season and Michael Ryder scored his teamleading 15th goal as the Devils snapped a three-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the
Dallas Stars Thursday night at the Rock.
Schneider finished with 26 saves in his first victory since Dec. 28 against the Islanders. Ryder connected at 8:17 of the second period on a pass from Travis Zajac.
PENN ST. TO HIRE FRANKLIN
Penn State is expected to name
James Franklin its new head football coach. Franklin, who has guided Vanderbilt to consecutive nine-win seasons for the first time in program history, will take over for Bill O’Brien, according to multiple reports. Franklin met with Penn State officials in Destin, Fla., — where he owns a home — on Wednesday, and the inter- view reportedly went on for several hours.
A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that former Southern California coach Lane Kiffin is being considered by Alabama to replace offensive coordinator
Doug Nussmeier. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because Nussmeier’s departure to Michigan was not yet official and the search for his replacement was not being made public.
ARIZONA HOLDS OFF UCLA
Nick Johnson scored 22 points and No. 1 Arizona withstood UCLA’s late 15-1 run to beat the Bruins, 79-75, equaling the best start in school history at 16-0.
