-

PENN ST. TO HIRE FRANKLIN

Penn State is expected to name

James Franklin its new head football coach. Franklin, who has guided Vanderbilt to consecutive nine-win seasons for the first time in program history, will take over for Bill O’Brien, according to multiple reports. Franklin met with Penn State officials in Destin, Fla., — where he owns a home — on Wednesday, and the inter- view reportedly went on for several hours.

A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that former Southern California coach Lane Kiffin is being considered by Alabama to replace offensive coordinator

Doug Nussmeier. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because Nussmeier’s departure to Michigan was not yet official and the search for his replacement was not being made public.
