ALTERNATE-SIDE PARKING RULES IN EFFECT ALL WEEK
Get ready for a quiet week on the roads with temperatures staying above freezing. Travel should pick up for the threeday weekend beginning Friday afternoon. Loads of summonses are issued on MLK Day, so check out next week’s column for parking regulations. All Manhattan-bound lanes of the
Brooklyn Bridge will close 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights and midnight Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Inbound traffic will be rerouted to the
Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, as well as the Battery Tunnel. Expect slowdowns on the way into Lower Manhattan.
At the Garden, the Rangers play the Flyers 7 p.m. Sunday, the Lightning 7 p.m. Tuesday, and the Red Wings 7 p.m. Thursday. The Knicks play the Suns 7:30 p.m. Monday and the Clippers 7 p.m. Friday. Before and after games, watch out for extra traffic on Seventh and
Eighth Aves. at 33rd and 34th Sts. At Barclays Center, Jay-Z performs 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Flatbush and
Atlantic Aves. will be jammed with cars before each show. No 1 trains between 96th St. and
Dyckman St. 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights. Take the A train, M104, M4 or a free shuttle bus instead. From the mailbag: Dear Gridlock Sam,
I parked in a bus stop a couple of weeks ago outside a buddy's house and exited my car to help load some furniture. Moments later, an agent pulled up beside me and issued a summons for "No Standing." I was literally in the bus stop for less than five minutes. Was the agent right to issue a ticket?
Bill, Brooklyn
Dear Bill, Unfortunately for you, he was. You may pick up or drop off passengers expeditiously in a "No Standing" zone, but getting out of the car to load "stuff" even for just a few minutes is a big no-no. NYPD is quick to enforce "No Standing" regulations.
