Smart shoves fan in Okla. St. loss

LUBBOCK, Tex. — Oklahoma State star Marcus Smart shoved a fan underneath the basket in the waning seconds of Texas Tech’s 65-61 win over the 19th-ranked Cowboys on Saturday night.

Smart tried to block Jaye Crockett’s dunk attempt from behind with 6.2 seconds to go and tumbled into the front row of the crowd. He was helped to his feet by one man but then got in the face of another fan in a black shirt.

The man appeared to say something to Smart, who then shoved him with two hands. The fan stumbled backward a bit but didn’t fall.

Teammates quickly pulled an angry Smart away from the fracas, and he pointed back in the direction of the fan. Smart was called for a technical foul but was not ejected.

Crockett scored 21 points and tied his season high with 12 rebounds to lead Texas Tech (12-11, 4-6 Big 12), which handed the Cowboys (16-7, 4-6) their fourth straight loss.

SMU 76, CINCINNATI 55: Nick Russell had 15 points to go with several big steals, and coach Larry Brown’s SMU Mustangs (19-5, 8-3 American Athletic) stayed undefeated at home, topping No. 7 Cincinnati (22-3, 11-1) and ending the Bearcats’ 15-game winning streak.

FLORIDA 78, ALABAMA 69: Scottie Wilbekin scored 16 points, leading all five starters in double figures, and the No. 3 host Gators won their 15th straight.

The Gators (21-2, 10-0 SEC) handled the Tide (9-14, 3-7) for the second time in 16 days and extended a school record for consecutiv­e home wins to 29.

KANSAS 83, WEST VIRGINIA 69: Andrew Wiggins scored 19 points, Wayne Selden had 17 and the No. 8 host Jayhawks survived a foul-fest and padded their lead in the Big 12 standings.

Reserve Tarik Black added 11 points for the Jayhawks (18-5, 9-1 ), who honored the 40th anniversar­y of their 1974 Final Four team by fending off the Mountainee­rs (1410, 6-5) to take a two-game lead over surprising Texas in the conference race.

IOWA 85, MICHIGAN 67: Roy Devyn Marble scored 22 of his 26 points in the first half and No. 17 Iowa (18-6, 7-4 Big Ten) beat No. 10 Michigan (17-6, 9-2).

DUKE 89, BOSTON COLLEGE 68: Jabari Parker set career highs with 29 points and 16 rebounds, and Quinn Cook hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points as the No. 11 Blue Devils (19-5, 8-3 ACC) coasted to a win over the host Eagles (6-17, 2-8).

KENTUCKY 69, MISSISSIPP­I ST. 59: Julius Randle scored 16 points and James Young added 11 for the 18th-ranked visiting Wildcats. Kentucky (18-5, 8-2 SEC) has won three straight overall and seven in a row over Mississipp­i State (13-0, 3-7).

MEMPHIS 60, GONZAGA 54: Chris Crawford and Michael Dixon Jr. each had 11 points, and host No. 24 Memphis (185) scored the final 10 points of the game to defeat 23rd-ranked Gonzaga (21-4).

WAGNER 62, SACRED HEART 55: Jay Harris and Kenneth Ortiz scored 15 points apiece to lead Wagner (12-11, 6-4 NEC) over host Sacred Heart (4-21, 1-9).

GW 93, FORDHAM 67: Maurice Creek scored 20 points and Patricio Garino added 18 as hot-shooting host George Washington (19-4, 7-2 Atlantic) overwhelme­d Fordham (9-13, 2-7).

ST. FRANCIS (PA.) 74, LIU BROOKLYN 58: Stephon Whyatt scored 17 points and Malik Harmon had 16 with five assists visiting as St. Francis (Pa.) (7-16, 5-5 NEC) defeated LIU Brooklyn (7-16, 2-8).

RUTGERS 79, S. FLORIDA 69: Kadeem Jack scored a career-high 31 points, leading Rutgers (10-14, 4-7 AAC) over South Florida (12-12, 3-8) for its first win in eight tries on the road.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 73, STONY BROOK 69: Ike Azotam scored 21 points and Daniel Dion scored 13, including a late go-ahead three-pointer, as New Hampshire (6-17, 4-6 America East) snapped the 23-game home conference win streak of Stony Brook (17-8, 9-2) despite 18 points from Carson Puriefoy.

ROBERT MORRIS 72, ST. FRANCIS (B’KLYN) 50: Lucky Jones scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the first three minutes as visiting Robert Morris, (14-11, 9-1 NEC) routed St. Francis of Brooklyn.

The Terriers (15-10, 6-4) committed 14 turnovers and shot just 34%.
