Melanie Chambers & Evan Abramowitz
Port Washington, L.I. Evan popped the question when Melanie was about to pop corn.
The software product manager, 36, proposed during a February 2013 snowstorm.
Melanie, 33, a photo editor, had suggested they nosh popcorn as a snack.
“When I opened the pantry, the ring was sitting in front of the popcorn,” she recalls.
The pair first met at a 2006 wedding where she was a bridesmaid and he was the best man. They became friendly at the engagement party, and kept seeing each other at other wedding events over the weekend.
They went on their first date not long after the December nuptials. Evan met Melanie at the end of a shoot near Columbus Circle, and they grabbed dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant.
She invited him to her holiday dinner party, and the pair rang in 2007 together on New Year’s Eve. They’ve been inseparable ever since.
The Astoria couple’s wedding was at the Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, with their ceremony right on a green.
Their three nieces were junior bridesmaids, and two nephews served as ring bearers.
The venue featured a fun Coney Island-themed concessions cart handing out cotton candy and pretzels for the 190 guests.
The bride remembers their shared first look. She approached her husband as he was getting his portrait taken.
“He looked so handsome in his tuxedo,” says the bride.
