Hunting for owner of lost Barclays gem
TALK ABOUT finding a diamond in the rough.
The hunt is on for a hopeless romantic who Saturday night left a diamond engagement ring resting on a toilet paper dispenser of a men’s room at Barclays Center.
Brooklyn chef Jorge Collazo found the glittery rock in a small white box on his trip to the can during a Marc Anthony concert at the Brooklyn arena.
With the silver ring was a tiny piece of paper, on which was scribbled a declaration of love to “My dear Daniela d’Andrea,” Collazo said.
“On this day Feb. 15, 2014, I want to give you This Ring as a Simbol (sic) of My Love,” the note said. “I will dedicate Myself to love you Protect you and Make you happy for as long as I live and More. You are the greatest love of my life.”
The last words began “Would you,” but the rest were torn off. Collazo, who waited 10 minutes for the guy to rush back to the bathroom to retrieve the ring, is sure it was a proposal.
“If he was rejected, why wouldn’t he get his money back and go out with the guys?” Collazo, 63, an executive chef with the city Department of Education, told the Daily News. On the back of the note, the wayward Romeo got his bilingual on: “Te quiero mucho,” Spanish for “I love you a lot.”
At the concert, Collazo showed the ring to his girlfriend Maria. She was the one who spied the letter.
“Maria said to me, ‘This is heartbreaking. We have to get these people back together,’” Collazo said.
