Sweet month for shopping & saving

- BY FRAN GOLDEN

JUNE BOON JUNE MAY have 30 days, but it’s the month with the longest daylight hours of the year — meaning more time for shopping.

It’s also the month when we celebrate dads with Father’s Day — though admittedly not to the extreme we honor moms in May.

Recent graduates will be hoping for gifts, too. Those not graduating will be enticed to begin stocking up for back-toschool — yes, already. There will be gifts to buy for June weddings as well.

National Splurge Day on June 18 is one of those weird, invented holidays to make people spend money. Still, if you’re looking for an excuse to buy yourself a little gift, this may be it.

On Friday, carb-load for shopping with a free treat during National Doughnut Day. While you’re at it, stock up on lingerie on sale.

Here are your best bets to buy in June.

Tools. Ret ailers, including Sears, Ace Hardware and Lowe’s, are hoping you’ll go for a practical gift for Father’s Day on June 15. Find markdowns on tool sets and power tools. At Home Depot, get $20 off a $100 purchase on top brands.

Men’s suits. Men’s Wearhouse and other retailers will entice with 2-for-1 offers. If you don’t need two suits, share the deal with a friend.

Cookware. With graduation and wedding season upon us, look for savings on popular home goods to give as gifts. At Macy’s, some cookware sets are marked down to $39.99.

Gym memberships. Sunshine and warm temps mean opportunity to exercise outdoors — and slow times at gyms. See what kind of deal you can negotiate to work on your bikini bod.

Lingerie. Victoria’s Secret holds its semiannual sale this month, with bras and

panties

among items reduced. Other retailers also look to turn over inventory in June — including with buy-two, get-one-free deals.

Laptops. June signals the first of the back-to-school offers, value coming in bundles that throw in a printer or gift certificate. With Apple expected to announce new models, look for 2013 MacBook Air models for as low as $750, says s DealNews.com.

Doughnuts. On National Doughnut Day, there will be freebies and value-priced riced offers from Dunkin’ n’ Donuts, Krispy Kreme and local shops.

Caribbean vacations. A chance of hurricanes in the Caribbean brings bargain prices. Look for last-minute savings, especially if and when a storm hits. Snag a deal on the Carnival Splendor, departing next Monday from New York for an eight-day cruise to the Caribbean priced

from $399.
