Gov. to fight war on AIDS
GOV. CUOMO aims to ensure that AIDS is no longer an epidemic by 2020.
The governor is set to announce the ambitious goal Sunday, coinciding with New York City’s Gay Pride Parade, an administration source said Saturday. Officials plan to more aggressively test and treat HIV-positive patients to reduce the numbers of those who eventually contract and die of AIDS.
In six years, officials reportedly hope to bring the annual figure of new infections down from the current 3,000 to 750, according to reports. Many of those who carry the virus are unaware they are infected, and part of the plan is to identify them and get them treatment.
