WHAT’S ON TV THIS WEEK

-

TUESDAY

Soccer: Jurgen Klinsmann was kind enough to send the whole country a “get out of work” note so Americans might be excused from their offices to watch the U.S.-Germany game last Thursday. No word yet on whether he’ll be doing the same for his team’s World Cup Round-of-16 match against Belgium, but hey, it’s Fourth of July week – what are you doing at work to begin with? 4 p.m., ESPN

THURSDAY

Baseball: On the eve of Independence Day, the Yankees will be looking to set off some offensive fireworks against old friend Phil Hughes and the Twins in Minnesota. However, Hughes has not been getting lit up since leaving the Bronx bandbox for spacious Target Field, so the Bombers’ holiday plans just might fizzle. 8 p.m., YES

FRIDAY

Soccer: It may be America’s birthday, but all eyes will be on Brazil as the World Cup host country — with its latest one-name star Neymar (we’re not sure if their other one-name star, Crossbar, will show up again this time) looks to advance to the semi finals when they meet Colombia. All we can say is we hope the local boys move on otherwise all hell might break out in the streets of Rio. 4 p.m., ESPN
