Wie leads by two; Brad wins NASCAR

Michelle Wie shot her second straight 5-under 66 to take a twoshot lead Saturday in the suspended second round of the NW Arkansas Championsh­ip in Rogers, Ark. Coming off a win last Sunday in the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst, Wie had six birdies and a bogey in her morning round at Pinnacle CC to get to 10-under 132. So Yeon Ryu, paired with Wie, was second after another 67.

All 72 players in the afternoon session were unable to finish because of thundersto­rms. Suzann Pettersen (67), Chella Choi (65) and Line Vedel (five holes left) were three strokes back, and topranked and local favorite Stacy Lewis (67) was four behind. Firstround leader Alena Sharp was 4-under after 15 holes.

Patrick Reed shot an evenpar 71 for a 6-under 207 total and a two-shot lead after three rounds of the Quicken Loans National at Congressio­nal in Bethesda, Md. Reed is 3-0 in PGA Tour events when he has had at least a share of the 54-hole lead. Tied for second were Seung-yul Noh (66), Freddie Jacobson (71) and Marc Leishman ( 73).

Bernhard Langer moved closer to his first Senior Players Championsh­ip, shooting a 4-under 66 for a 15-under 195 total and a three-shot lead over defending champion Kenny Perry (65) at Fox Chapel in Pittsburgh.

Brad Keselowski dominated NASCAR’S Quaker State 400 to become Kentucky Speedway’s first repeat winner. The Penske Racing driver and 2012 race winner followed his record-breaking pole effort to lead 199 of 267 laps in Sparta, Ky., and earn his second victory this season and 12th overall. Keselowski won from the pole for the first time, pulling away after chasing down and passing leader Kyle Busch on Lap 248. Busch was second, followed by Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who rallied from a 29th-place start.

unTaPaBle eYes BoYs

Untapable, the impressive winner of the Kentucky Oaks, destroyed an overmatche­d group of fillies in the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park, and could start against the fellas in the July 27 Haskell Invitation­al at Monmouth Park.

It’s a move Untapable’s trainer Steve Asmussen successful­ly made in 2009 with Rachel Alexandra after she won the Mother Goose Stakes by 191/ lengths. On Saturday, Untapable merely won by 91/ while under a hand ride from jockey John Velazquez to return $2.10 as the 1-20 favorite in the field of five.

“There’s definitely the thought of running her against the boys,” Asmussen said.

WiZarDs KeeP Miller

The Wizards will keep Andre Miller for another season. Miller’s agent said he’d been officially notified the team would guarantee the veteran guard’s contract for $4.6 million in 2014-15. Acquired from the Nuggets in a trade-deadline deal in February, Miller, 38, averaged 3.8 points and 3.5 assists as the Wizards made the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
