Stony Point, N.Y. Rock ’n’ roll brought Sara and Andrew true romance.

The SUNY Albany students met while working at the campus radio station, WCDB. Andrew trained Sara to be a rock DJ as part of the studio’s orientation.

The pair made sweet music together. “In the process, we ended up together,” says Sara, 31, who works in interactive marketing and search engine optimization.

The spin masters grew closer as they went to concerts, worked at the station and hung out with mutual friends. They kept a long-distance relationship after college as Andrew, 31, a sociology professor at SUNY and Westchester Community College, stayed in Albany while Sara worked in Manhattan.

But going the distance made them appreciate the luxury of living nearby each other later on, the bride reflects.

The Flushing couple got engaged in December 2011, after dating just shy of 10 years. Andrew surprised Sara by proposing after cooking her a romantic meal at home. “I was totally not suspecting it,” says the bride. The couple celebrated a rustic daytime wedding ceremony at The Clubhouse at Patriot Hills in Stony Point, which features a beautiful mountain backdrop. They took photos at Bear Mountain State Park before the nuptials.

“And of course, music was really something that we wanted to incorporate,” says the bride. They included lyrics from songs they both liked as pages in their sign-in book, as well as music notes on the invitations. The wedding cake was adorned with sheet music around the middle.

The bride walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of the Sigur Ros song “Hoppipolla.”

“It was a really, really magical day,” she says. “Seeing all your family and friends out in the crowd really made my heart melt, because everyone’s there for you, and they’re so happy for you.”
