Maria Vazquez & Brendan Goldblatt

Manhattan. This couple tied the knot on top of the world.

Brendan surprised Maria with a whirlwind Valentine’s Day wedding at the Empire State Building observation deck.

The groom entered his unsuspecting bride in the skyscraper nuptial contest by filming a video in the landmark’s lobby explaining why the Manhattan couple was the perfect match. But Brendan, 36, a salesman, has been full of surprises since the couple first met at a 2005 Upper East Side party. He took Maria, 33, a social worker, to see the movie “Rent” on their first date because he knew that was her favorite Broadway musical.

“We were together ever since,” says Brendan.

He popped the question in 2008, on the anniversary of that first date. He first asked the bride’s father for his permission, and then surprised her when she least expected it by getting down on bended knee when she walked into their bedroom.

“She immediately burst into tears,” remembers Brendan, who took Maria to dinner to celebrate.

The couple had spent many dates at the Metro Grill in Hotel Metro, which boasts a rooftop view of the Empire State Building. So once Brendan saw on Twitter that the skyscraper was having a wedding contest, he knew this would be the perfect place to tie the knot. He was pleasantly surprised when they were among the winners.

He took Maria to the iconic building on Valentine’s Day, telling her they were filming a commercial for one of his customers. Instead, they found the 68th floor transformed into a chapel with a wall of 10,000 roses from ProFlowers, and a view of the entire city from the windows.

“She was so thrilled,” he says. “It’s really quite an honor. We were just so ecstatic.”

Their 2-year-old daughter, Victoria, served as the flower girl, and they took photos on the observation deck.

For the reception, they took their 26 guests to their old haunt, the Metro Grill rooftop, and took photos with the Empire State Building in the background.

“We’d been through so much and we’d been together so long, just to make it official and be together and to do it in such a special way, it was a great wedding,” says the groom.

He adds, “You get one or two stories you can tell your grandkids that they’ll actually listen to, and this is my story. Every day I see the building, and I just get this smile across my face.”
