A YEAR OF JASON

-

Jason Kidd has been coaching Nets for barely more than a year, but his tenure in Brooklyn — which looks to be coming to swift end — has been quite eventful. Here is a recap:

Kidd is hired as Nets coach on June 12, 2013, despite fact that former All- Star has no coaching experience at any level and has pending DWI case stemming from 2012 arrest. He pleads guilty to a misdemeanor and is placed on probation for year.

Out of timeouts late in eventual loss to Lakers in November, Kidd instructs guard Tyshawn Taylor to bump into him on sidelines so Kidd can fake spilling cup of soda to delay game and gain informal timeout. Video footage catches Kidd asking Taylor to ‘ hit me,’ but Kidd maintains afterward that ‘ the cup slipped out of my hand.’ The NBA fines him $ 50,000.

Before Dec. 3 home game, Kidd announces he has removed his lead assistant, Lawrence Frank — once his former head coach with the Nets — from the bench and ‘ reassigned’ him to writing daily reports. Sources tell Daily News friction had been mounting between the two.

With highest payroll in NBA, Nets enter new year at just 10- 21 but begin to turn season around with thrilling 95- 93 victory at Oklahoma City on Jan. 2, thanks to Joe Johnson’s jump shot at the buzzer. Victory sparks Nets to 34- 17 mark to finish regular season, a surge keyed by Kidd's decision to shift Paul Pierce from small forward to power forward.

Kidd is named NBA Coach of the Month for March after leading Nets to 12- 4 mark, and guides team to 44- 38 record and sixth seed in playoffs, where Brooklyn gets past Toronto in seven games for franchise's first series victory since 2007 — when Kidd was the Nets’ point guard and Frank their coach. Nets then fall to Heat in five games.

Kidd recently makes power play with Nets brass, demanding to be promoted to head of team's basketball operations, but is rebuffed. Nets give Kidd permission to talk to Milwaukee Bucks about job that presumably would involve front- office role. — George Henn
