THE MADMAN who attacked an Israeli yeshiva student at the Lubavitcher headquarters in Brooklyn stabbed him in the head so hard he reportedly cracked his skull.

The 5-inch blade sliced into Levi Rosenblatt’s brain, raising fears that the 22-year-old scholar might have suffered permanent damage, Chabad.org News reported.

But doctors at Bellevue Hospital managed to repair the laceration and several hours later, Rosenblatt was able to talk to his mother by telephone before she boarded a flight in Tel Aviv to be by her son’s side.

“The doctors said he’s on the right track to recovery,” a Chabad Lubavitch source who visited Rosenblatt at the hospital said Thursday. “He’s going in the right direction. He’s in good spirits.”

Rosenblatt remains in serious but stable condition at Bellevue.

A 22-year-old scholar who lives in a Jewish settlement on the West Bank, Rosenblatt was praying early Tuesday when a deranged Calvin Peters burst into the Crown Heights building and plunged a knife into his head while yelling, “I want to kill the Jews.”

The 49-year-old attacker, who relatives said suffered from bipolar disorder, was then shot dead by an NYPD officer — after a confrontation with cops that was captured on a startling cell phone video.

Rosenblatt’s mother, Reizy, arrived on Wednesday and thanked God for a “miracle.”

“He told me he was OK,” she told a Daily News reporter at Newark Airport. “His head is in a little pain. He cannot understand the miracle.”
