Moore hit with $10G fine
Damontre Moore can add something to his Christmas list.
The Giants DE was fined $10,000 on Friday for his hit on Titans QB Zach Mettenberger last Sunday. It occurred during CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie’s interception return for a touchdown that wasn’t, a score nullified by a penalty for Moore’s hit (Antrel Rolle was also penalized for his celebratory antics in the end zone).
According to NFL rules, a player is prohibited from hitting a QB after a change of possession, unless the signal caller is actively trying to make a tackle during the return. Mettenberger was unbuckling his chinstrap when Moore shoved him aside.
COLT LIKELY TO START
Although he is officially listed as questionable, Washington QB Colt McCoy (neck) has been medically cleared to play and will likely be the starter on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, barring a setback. Though it seemed as though McCoy would be the starter all week, the Giants have prepared for each of Washington’s quarterbacks during practice.
“One of them (Robert Griffin III) is more of a read quarterback. You have to watch for the read and you know all the passes that come off that,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “Then with McCoy, there won’t be so much of the read. He is definitely more of an accurate passer if you look at his completion ratings. One, you have to be more cautious of the run, and the other one — it is still the same offense — but a little bit more passing out of it.”
Meanwhile, coach Jay Gruden said that dynamic Washington WR DeSean Jackson (leg) has a “50/50” chance of playing.
INJURY UPDATE
QB Eli Manning (back), LB Mark Herzlich (concussion) and LB Jameel McClain (knee) all practiced fully on Friday and are probable for Sunday’s game against Washington. T James Brewer (concussion) and LB Jacquian Williams (concussion) did not practice and are out for Sunday.
