BROOKLYN BREWERY $6M

-

Brooklyn Brewery’s $100 million expansion into Staten Island means more beer for the city. The new 400,000-barrel facility, slated to open as early as 2017, could more than double its output to a million barrels, said Robin Ottaway, the company’s vice president of sales.

The state pledged $6 million in grant money toward the project, which promises 140 new jobs at the popular suds-maker’s new venture across the Verrazano Bridge.

The beer producer isn’t abandoning its home base in Williamsburg — there just wasn’t enough open space in Kings County to accommodate the kind of additional facility it needs, Ottaway said.

“We will not move our headquarters from Brooklyn and will always brew here, but we need 30 acres of land located close to the ports,” he said.

They’re still searching for the right piece of land for the facility, which is expected to play a big role in the brewery’s growth as it expands more into international markets.

About 30% of the company’s array of stouts, lagers and ales now ship to foreign shores.
