FEELING ABANDONED AS A CHILD
In a childhood dream my family was moving. As I went to the van my six siblings and family drove off leaving me behind as if on purpose. I felt self-pity. (In reality, my relationship with my mother was always strained). I went back home but a new family was inside. I stayed there until they told me my family was in the garage. I went in and found an ocean inside, a sunken ship at the bottom and my mother. I swam to her but was shocked to find it was only her bones. What does this mean? Danielle M. Winnipeg, Canada
Analysis: Regarding your sense of abandonment, we need only look at your mother, at the bottom of it all, as it were. Her bones are a significant symbol: Lacking the warmth of the body, the soul, she is not viewed as part of the flesh and blood of family. A strained maternal relationship often leads to feelings of rejection and self-pity. There is the wish to leave the family and go it alone. Getting submerged allows you to delve underneath the surface to work through the repressed material of the unconscious. What matters most is that you survive.

I dreamt I was given a large chicken egg. As I walked off the egg started hatching in my hands. I threw it down, and the chick came out running. One of the legs seemed broken, but it could run. I struggled to catch it. When I did, it turned into a duckling in my hands. It fell down but wasn't hurt, so I tried catching it and it led me to many more of its kind. Please decode this dream.
