‘Many’ others can bring rape raps, says lawyer

- BY NANCY DILLON

HIGH-POWERED lawyer Gloria Allred introduced two more women Friday who claim Bill Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them.

Sunni Welles, just 17 when the reputed rapist allegedly targeted her in the mid-1960s, and Margie Shapiro, the employee of a Santa Monica, Calif., doughnut shop, both accused Cosby of drugging and raping them in California during the 1960s and 1970s.

“Where will it end? It’s not going to end today. I assure you of that, I assure Mr. Cosby of that,” Allred said. “I have many more women who will be coming forward, and Mr. Cosby will never know exactly when.”

Welles broke down crying as she described an attack by Cosby after she got to know him in the mid-1960s through her mother’s job at Paramount Studios. She said the “I Spy” star knew she was a 17-year-old aspiring singer and invited her to a jazz club where he allegedly slipped something into her soda. “I don’t remember leaving the club. I don’t remember driving anywhere else,” she said. “What I do remember next was waking up naked in a bed alone in a sparsely furnished apartment. When I got home, I showered and felt as if I had had sex,” she added, through tears.

When she spoke to Cosby (right) by phone, she said he claimed she got drunk and must have stripped herself naked.

Welles said he later took her on another outing to the Magic Castle in L.A., and the same thing hap- pened after she drank a Coke. “I remember drinking a Coke and again I awak- ened in the same room alone and naked,” she said. “This time I didn’t call him and I never heard from Bill Cosby again.”

Shapiro described meeting Cosby through her job at a Santa Monica doughnut shop in 1975. She said Cosby invited her to a din-er

and they ended up visiting the Playboy Mansion and hanging out in a guesthouse.

They played some pinball, and Cosby challenged her to a wager, saying whoever lost would have to swallow a pill, she claimed.

“I said, ‘Sure, why not,’ since he was still not being malicious or anything,” said Shapiro, who presented a matchbook with Cosby’s name emblazoned on the front. She lost the game, took a pill and quickly blacked out, she said.

“I came to a little and the first thing I saw was Bill Cosby’s face not far above me and we were both naked,” she said. “He was inside me and touching me and I was so grossed out, I can’t find the words to express my disgust.”

The women’s stories follow on the heels of more than 30 other women who have voiced similar stories. Cosby has not commented publicly on the allegations but has denied several claims through statements issued by his lawyer and wife. He has never been charged criminally in connection with any of the alleged attacks.
