WHO’S next FOR SJU?

- — Rubin

Here's a look at some of the potential candidates to replace Steve Lavin at St. John's, with odds in parentheses.

DAN HURLEY (3-1)

URI coach and former Seton Hall point guard has great recruiting connections in the area and a track record of turning moribund programs around. He's ready for a major conference job and has a great pedigree,

STEVE MASIELLO (5-1)

The Manhattan coach has taken the Jaspers to two straight NCAA Tournaments, recruits well and is a good tactician who makes players tough. There are those who will hold “Degree Gate” and past Manhattan hires (Fran Fraschilla) against him.

CHRIS MULLIN (5-1)

Bringing back the program’s greatest icon to coach might be the dream scenario for the old guard in the administration. He’d create buzz, draw fans and generate all kinds of cash flow. He’s never coached, and those who long for 1985 would get it.

BOB HURLEY (12-1)

The Buffalo coach and former Duke superstar would be a bigger splash than his brother, but he was Dan’s assistant coach not too long ago. He’s already in the mix for the DePaul opening.

TIM CLUESS (50-1)

The Iona coach, who signed an extension through 2019-2020 on Thursday, and former St. John's player has five 20-win seasons already with the Gaels. He is an offensive tactician, but his teams aren’t known for defense.

BOB MCKILLOP (50-1)

The Davidson coach and Long Island product comes off a season in which his team moved up from the SoCon to the Atlantic 10 and won the regular season title. But at 64 years old, is it too late for him?

MARK JACKSON (300-1)

A New York guy who has coached with great success at the NBA level and comes out of St. John's best years. He also has had some eccentric moments that the laced-up St. John’s administration might not like.

METTA WORLD PEACE (NO ODDS)

Former St. John’s player tweeted Friday: “I would absolutely coach at St. Johns if presented with that opportunity. Go St. Johns.” Come on, what could possibly go wrong with that?
