Grandkid’s guy attacked at B’klyn birthday party
A 21-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed to death when an argument with his girlfriend’s grandfather turned deadly early Sunday in Brooklyn, police sources said.
Kevin Rivera was found in his girlfriend’s apartment on Broadway in Bushwick about 2:15 a.m., police said. He suffered stab wounds to his chest and left arm.
Rivera was brought to Woodhull Medical Center but could not be saved.
Police are searching for 81-year-old Nicolas Diaz, the grandfather of Rivera’s girlfriend. Diaz is believed to have attacked Rivera, cops said.
A neighbor recalled Rivera’s sobbing girlfriend — with whom the slain man has a 1-year-old daughter — telling police about the attack.
“She says, ‘He’s dying, he’s dying,’ ”said the man, who declined to give his name. “She said that her grandfather stabbed him.”
Diaz has no criminal record, sources said.
No weapon was recovered at the scene, according to police, who said Rivera had three sealed arrests.
Rivera had brought his daughter to the girlfriend’s home to celebrate the little girl’s birthday, friends and family said.
“He was happy, he was showing off his daughter, he was happy she was in his life,” said family friend Daniel Ramos, 27.
Loved ones were unable to make sense of the stabbing.
“I don’t know how an 81-yearold man did that to him. (Kevin was) young, athletic, he was into martial arts,” Ramos said. “What would make a man who was at the end of his life flip out like that and stab a young man in his chest?”
Family and friends kept vigil near the crime scene and were devastated by the loss of Rivera, who they said was a good man and caring father.
“He cared about making his family happy, like any other grown man would,” said Rivera’s friend Joseph Quinones, 20.
“He was a good boy. He loved to play guitar,” said Rivera’s grandfather Jose Rivera, 65. “To murder my (grand) son like that, I don’t understand.”
