Our faculty: Imagine studying science with NASA researcher­s; culinary arts with industry profession­als; or nursing with faculty in the field. You can at Kingsborou­gh.

Cost : Tuition at CUNY is less than at most four-year public and private colleges, so you’ll save money by completing your first two years at KCC. Apply yourself and you might be eligible for scholarshi­ps only available to community college graduates. Plus, KCC’s academic calendar consists of two 12-week sessions, each followed by a sixweek module. NYC residents can earn up to 26 credits over an 18-week period for one flat rate — making it possible for some students to earn their associate’s degree in less than two years. (Check with an advisor to find out if you qualify.)

Choice: You can choose from over 50 degree and certificat­e programs at Kingsborou­gh. You can also take classes during the day, evening and/or weekends.

Learning communitie­s : Award-winning learning communitie­s, where you join 25 other freshman in three linked courses for one semester, have been proven to help you succeed in college.

Student services : Whether it’s academic advisement, free tutoring, low-cost profession­al childcare, assistance with accessibil­ity issues, career training, or advice about your long-term goals — you’ll find people and services to help you succeed.

Student clubs : Life is about connection­s and new experience­s. With 80 clubs to choose from, you’ll never be at a loss for something to do or people to meet.

Honors program : The KCC Honors Program offers enriched academic experience­s and co-curricular opportunit­ies for highly motivated and academical­ly capable students who want to enhance their Kingsborou­gh education. Benefits include small honors-only classes taught by dedicated faculty; opportunit­ies to study abroad and off campus; and membership in one of nation’s largest chapters of the Phi Theta Kappa Internatio­nal Honor Society.

Culture : KCC presents many free and lowcost community events each year including lectures; a free summer music festival; and profession­al arts events for adults and families. (Students get discounts to most ticketed events.)

Sports : A member of the NJCAA and the CUNY Conference, KCC’s Athletic Department offers a variety of intercolle­giate teams including men’s and women’s basketball, track, tennis, baseball, and soccer teams and women’s volleyball. There is also a comprehens­ive intramural program in an award-winning gym and pool facility, covering many sports for men and women throughout the school year.

Beautiful campus : Being surrounded with beautiful views, architectu­re, and art work is conducive to learning. Throughout the campus you can find quiet places to study and or to gaze at the waterfront that hugs the campus on three sides. (Did we mention there’s also a private beach?)

National acknowledg­ments

The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program identified Kingsborou­gh as one of the top 120 community colleges in the nation in 2011; one of the top 10 in 2012; and one of the top 4 in 2013. Ranked as one of the top community colleges in the United States ( The New York Times ; 2007). Consistent­ly ranks in the upper half of the top 100 community colleges in the country to award associate degrees to minority students and total number of associate degrees awarded.
