What’s different about SUNY Empire State College?

-

So what’s different about Empire State College? As a college geared toward adult learners, who often have work, family and civic commitments, our mission is to give you a high-quality SUNY education that is innovative and flexible enough to fit your schedule.

Mentoring and flexibility

At the heart of the Empire State College experience is the student’s relationship with their faculty mentor, who acts as advisor and guide, from enrollment to graduation. You’re assigned a mentor who will help you plan your degree program, select your courses and instructors, encourage you and listen to your concerns as you study independently.

If you’re an undergraduate student working towards your associate or bachelor’s degree, one of the first decisions you will make is deciding how to study — whether it’s face-to-face at a location, online, in study groups, at weekend residencies or a combination of these study options. With the support of your faculty mentor, along with student services professionals and support staff, you’re never alone on your educational journey.

Credit for qualified work and

life experience

As experts in adult education, Empire State College recognizes that adults have done a lot of learning through previous studies, certificate programs, military service, on-the-job experience and other learning pursuits. We provide the opportunity for you to earn credit for qualified work and life experiences, with the benefit of finishing your degree sooner. We also offer flexibility in the times you can enroll. You can start your studies during any one of five academic terms that begin in September, November, January, March and May.
