Manziel scrape at golf tourney

MAYBE Johnny Manziel should stick to throwing footballs instead of water bottles.

Manziel was harassed by a fan at the Byron Nelson tournament in Irving, Tex., on Saturday, Manziel’s agent and local police told Cleveland. com. Manziel ended up throwing a water bottle at the fan but missed, according to TMZ Sports. TMZ also reported that someone ridiculed the Browns QB for the throw, and that Manziel had to be held back from charging at the person who made the comment.

Police arrived and spoke to both the fan and Manziel, neither of whom pressed charges, according to Cleveland.com.

First word of an incident came Sunday morning from ESPN’s Colin Cowherd, who tweeted, “Expect a Johnny Manziel story from Byron Nelson tourney over next day or two.”

Manziel has been participating in the Browns’ offseason program after being released from the Caron rehab facility that helps those suffering from addiction. Irving police told TMZ that Manziel did not show any signs of intoxication on Saturday.

Manziel has had a history of off-the-field issues and last season had another encounter with a fan that turned sour. Last November Manziel was involved in an altercation with a fan in Cleveland. A member of Manziel’s group punched the fan, according to a police report. Manziel claimed the fan was “very intoxicated” and put his hands on him, prompting the incident. Browns GM Ray Farmer said at the time that the “timing of the incident is concerning to us,” because it occurred around 2:30 a.m. on a Saturday.

Manziel reportedly threw a party on the Friday before the team’s final game of the season and was late for his hamstring treatment the next day. Manziel later denied throwing a party.
