Mansion tax windfall

- Erin Durkin

MAYOR DE Blasio’s proposed “mansion tax” on luxe apartments would raise nearly $200 million a year for city coffers, according to an analysis announced Monday by the Independent Budget Office.

De Blasio wants to slap a city surcharge of 1% on home sales over $1.75 million, a rate that would climb to 1.5% when the value surpasses $5 million.
