Unfriendly skies
Flushing: Your story about New York’s three major airports (“Flyin shame: N.Y. is worst,” May 28) was biased in favor of the efforts by Global Gateway Alliance to solve airport problems by pushing for the Federal Aviation Administration to ramp up use of so-called NexGen technology. Yes, New York area airports are in desperate need of modernization, lagging behind both domestic and global competitors, to the detriment of our brand and economy. Who doesn’t want to eliminate tarmac delays? Who doesn’t want our airports to be models for the country? But the use of NextGen flight technology is not the answer. NextGen flight patterns make planes fly too low, too loudly, too frequently and too often above residential neighborhoods. Maria R. Becce
