SUMMERTIME, and the ridin’ will be cooler on the C line. The MTA has rolled out new 21st century C-train subway cars to replace some ancient models that can’t take the heat.

With temperatur­es soaring, modern R132 models have hit the C route, which currently runs the oldest train cars — with the worst performanc­e — in the system. MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said air conditioni­ng on the existing R32 C-line cars (pictured), which debuted in the 1960s, is strained by hot air from trains’ ventilatio­n systems that gets stuck undergroun­d.
