WONT STEER YOU WRONG BOSTON

Splendid summer finish lines

- Nicole Lyn Pesce

Beantown is steeped in historic sites, such as the harbor that hosted the Boston Tea Party and the pub that stood in for exterior shots of the bar in “Cheers.” The city boasts world-class dining and a thriving arts scene, and is just over four hours from Manhattan by car, or three hours by Amtrak.

What’s new:

The booming Seaport District (seaportboston.com), home to a waterfront restaurant row, the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) and the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion outdoor concert venue (bluehillsbankpavilion.net), has become Boston’s hottest ’hood. The brand new Committee small-plates restaurant on Fan Pier (committeeboston.com) joins the area’s thriving dining scene. And check out local vendors at the new Boston Public Market (bostonpublicmarket.org) along the Rose Kennedy Greenway on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Don’t miss:

Shop the upscale boutiques along Newbury St. (newbury-st.com), or score deals at the Assembly Row Outlets (assemblyrow.com). And no trip to Boston would be complete without catching a game in Fenway Park (boston.redsox.mlb.com), where the Yankees play the Red Sox Aug. 31-Sept. 2 (above).

Stay:

The Boxer boutique hotel (theboxerboston.com) downtown offers a bed & breakfast for two package starting at $139. And it’s game on for baseball fans at the luxe Hotel Commonwealth (l.) in Kenmore Square (hotelcommonwealth.com), which offers a Fenway Spirit getaway package for $399 a night, steps away from the ballpark, which includes overnight stay, a Fenway Park tour and breakfast. Or upgrade to the $499 Take Me Out to the Ballgame package and also score two right-field box seats to a Sox game and

a Fenway souvenir.
