Joe’s tries formula for pie in Brooklyn

New to the scene...

A 40-year-old Manhattan slice joint wants its share of the pie in Brooklyn.

Joe’s Pizza has opened a third location in Williamsbu­rg (216 Bedford Ave.). Recipes and prices are the same as at the Greenwich Village locations ($2.75 for plain cheese slice).

A 17-year-old got a sweet reward for doing his homework. LaGuardia High School senior Harrison Geller is making homemade gelato (r.) from recipes he created while studying in Umbria, Italy. Now the results are available at his new pop-up, Polpo Gelato (201 Allen St.). Flavors include ricotta stracciate­lla, with homemade cheese. The shop will be open through August.

Japanese sushi restaurant Uma Temakeria in Chelsea has rolled out a $10 shrimp sushi burrito (l.), stuffed with shrimp, miso green curry sauce, snow peas, scallions, carrots, daikon pickle and tempura crunch.

On the horizon...

Former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses will teach a cooking series for youngsters. The five classes run on Saturdays, starting in September at the Internatio­nal

Culinary Center. Kids ages 8-11 will learn culinary science and basics like identifyin­g the five “tastes” (sweet, sour, salt, umami and bitter). The “Taste of Tennis” returns Aug. 26 with a Celebrity Chef Tennis Challenge ($100) at City View Racquet Club in Queens. Culinary aces including Landmarc’s Marc Murphy and Gotham Bar and Grill’s Alfred Portale will compete in the doubles tournament.
