One-time reunion
Aventura is reuniting
for a 20-concert run in upper Manhattan
next month. The four-man bachata
group, which disbanded in 2011 and was
the springboard for lead singer Romeo
Santos’ solo career, performs at the
United Palace Theater on Broadway and
175th St. from Feb. 4-7, 10-14,
17-21 and 24-29. Fans got a hint a
reunion was in the works back in July 2014 , when Santos
was joined on stage by ex-bandmates
Henry Santos (singer),
Lenny Santos (rhythm guitar) and Max Santos (bass guitar)
at his Yankee Stadium
solo concert. The reunion, though,
is a one-time deal and there are no plans to get back
together on a regular basis, a source close
to the group confirmed
to Viva. The Bronx-based
musicians’ hip hop and R&B-influenced
variant of bachata was met with resistance
during their early days in the
late-1990s, prompting them to name their first two opuses
“Generation Next” (2000)
and “We Broke the Rules” (2002). Since then, their
sound has become the genre’s most popular form, serving
as a template for artists such as Toby
Love and Prince Royce, and drawing the
likes of rapper Drake and R&B singer
Usher toward collaborations
with Romeo Santos. Aventura released its final album,
“The Last,” in 2009. Fans can still buy
tickets to the shows on Feb. 10, 17, 24 and 29 through
Ticketmaster or Latin Events (212-923-3737).
