3 hurt as cab hits a pole in Central Park

- Ryan Sit

A PEDESTRIAN in Central Park was injured by a falling street-light pole that was knocked loose after a yellow cab jumped a curb on the Upper East Side and slammed into it Sunday, police said.

The cabbie told police he mounted the curb after swerving to avoid another taxi that had just cut him off on Fifth Ave. near E. 84th St. shortly before 10 a.m., police said.

That’s when the cab smashed into the pole, which then fell and injured a 41-year-old woman in the park.

The cab’s passenger, a 47-yearold woman, suffered a head injury in the crash, police said.

A child was also injured, an FDNY spokesman said.

It wasn’t clear if the child was in the cab or also a pedestrian.

Emergency responders rushed all three people to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell, where they were expected to survive.
