Bronx: Both sides are far from the mark: Rikers is the dumbest jail ever built and a money-toilet — which was the reason it was built. Contractors and politicians made zillions. If it were a prison (permanent convicted inmates) and not a jail (temporary nonconvicted detainees), it might be OK, but every single day they must bus detainees to and from courthouses in five different boroughs. That’s a mind-boggling waste of tax dollars. It’s a huge security risk as well: The more you move inmates around, the more problems you encounter. If de Blasio weren’t a moron, he’d know you can shut Rikers down in about one week, as almost all people being housed there are being detained illegally in violation of the Bill of Rights’ prohibition on “excessive bail.” Sean T.
