Subway scofflaw nabbed with gun

- John Annese

A GUN-TOTING ex-con tried to enter the subway system with someone else’s reduced-fare MetroCard, then jumped onto the elevated tracks in a failed bid to escape police, cops said.

Michael Latham, 32, of Brooklyn, caught the attention of police at about 9 p.m. Saturday, when he used a disability MetroCard to enter a “high wheel” turnstile at the Livonia Ave. elevated train station in Brownsville, cops said.

Cops asked to see his disability MetroCard — a type of reducedfare card that typically includes a name and photo. Instead, he produced a regular MetroCard.

The officers moved to arrest him, and he pushed one of them, jumped onto the southbound tracks, pulled a gun from his waistband and threw it away.

Police found the gun, a loaded .32-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, by the side of a nearby building.

Latham has 17 prior arrests on his record, police sources said. In 2005, he was sentenced to five years in prison for robbery and weapon possession.

He faces charges of weapon possession, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and other counts.
